THE SHUSWAP LAKE WATERSHED
The watershed is a geographical area where snow or rain falls and drains to Shuswap Lake.
This rich natural environment is located within the traditional unceded territory of the Secwépemc Peoples.
THE WATERSHED
The Shuswap Lake Watershed is about
1.5 million hectares and includes Shuswap, Mara, Mabel, and Adams Lake. The single outflow of this watershed is the South Thompson River near Chase.
Shuswap lake is about 310 square km and is a nursery watershed of four species of pacific salmon and is an important habitat for a variety of plants and wildlife.

WATER QUALITY
The Shuswap Watershed Council (SWC) was established in 2014 and is a watershed based partnership of organizations with an interest or responsibility for protecting water quality.

There are up to 22 members that represent three regional districts, two municipalities, the Secwépemc nation, three provincial government agencies, and Shuswap communities. The SWC is a collaborative non regulatory group that focuses on strategic initiatives to protect maintain and enhance water quality and promote safe recreation in the Shuswap.
